It is often the case that life's events connect us to others in ways that we are unaware. When Dick shows up on Victor's doorstep, unable to remember who he is, and with nothing but a few carefully placed notes to clue him in, the two men have no idea the events, past and future, that connect them.
Things become more complicated when Victor's girlfriend Shelly doesn't come home from work. A strange voice message suggests that Dick may know where she is. A strange man answering Shelly's phone suggests that he is her pimp. And Shelly, finally returning home, suggests that she is not Shelly at all, but Dick's wife Jodi.
When Hector the pimp and Shelly the prostitute do show up, they provide no answers at all, but instead more questions about the identity and relationship of the group.
It is not until Marlene shows up, at first glance a stranger to them all, that we begin to learn about the circumstances leading up to this unexpected meeting.
Marlene is angry. Angry enough to poison her husband, kidnap the others, and hire a sniper to keep them from running. Gradually, she reveals the tragic events that have led her here - the senseless murder of her father, the discovery of her husband sleeping with another woman, and the heartbreaking loss of her daughter - and the parts played by her new hostages.
Marlene's intricate plan rolls forward just as she planned. As she punishes the others for their crimes against her, we question whether her evil means are necessary, wonder how far she will go, and contemplate whether her revenge is justified.
For as Marlene will find out, our connections to others are often less clear then we know, and our desire for revenge can damage ourselves more than anyone.
